About the Course

In this wreck diver course, you will learn how to investigate wrecks carefully, assess hazards, and plan safe routes around and within the structure. What you need to know

  • PADI Wreck Diver manual or e‑learning for pre‑study.
  • Four wreck dives over two days, guided by an experienced wreck instructor.
  • Use of reels, guidelines, cutting tools and lights for mapping and limited penetration.
  • Boat transport to local wrecks (e.g., Inchcape 1 & 2 in Fujairah or Musandam) with gas fills.
  • Certification processing and debrief after each dive.
  • Transportation to/from the dive centre or boat launch and any border fees (for Fujairah and Musandam).
  • Personal dive gear (mask, fins, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, dive computer and SMB).
  • Nitrox upgrades, meals beyond light refreshments and personal expenses.
  • Dive insurance (recommended) and optional specialty courses such as Deep Diver or Nitrox.
  • Additional wreck tours or fun dives are not part of the course.

  • plan and organize safe wreck dives
  • assess wreck hazards, structure, and legal considerations
  • map wreck layouts and identify key entry and exit points
  • use reels and guidelines correctly
  • practise limited penetration within the natural light zone
  • improve buoyancy and finning to avoid silt and protect marine life
  • manage gas, orientation, and emergency procedures during wreck exploration

This specifically highlights wreck mapping, historical awareness, hazard assessment, line laying, reel use, limited penetration, neutral buoyancy, and entanglement avoidance as core course outcomes.

After successfully completing the training dives and knowledge reviews, divers earn a wreck diver certification through the PADI Wreck Diver specialty. This wreck diving certification confirms that you have learned how to assess, map, and explore wrecks using safe recreational procedures and proper line-handling techniques.

This specialty counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, making it a strong addition to a broader continuing-education pathway.

  • Your own dive equipment (wetsuit, BCD, regulators, mask, fins, dive computer and SMB).
  • Gloves and a cutting tool (line cutter or small knife) for line handling and entanglement prevention.
  • Warm clothing or jacket for surface intervals, reef‑safe sunscreen and a hat.
  • Certification card, logbook and water bottle.
  • Curiosity about maritime history and respect for fragile wrecks.
  1. Enroll & theory: Register for the course and review the Wreck Diver manual or e‑learning.
  2. Dive 1: Learn about wreck types, hazards and legal considerations; perform an external tour and practise buoyancy control.
  3. Dive 2: Map the wreck, measure distances, identify entry/exit points and lay an external guideline.
  4. Dive 3: Plan and execute a limited penetration within the light zone using reels; practise line handling, finning and emergency protocols.
  5. Dive 4: Explore additional sections or refine skills; discuss silt management, navigation and entanglement avoidance.
  6. Certification: Debrief, log your dives and receive your Wreck Diver certification.
  • Duration: Approximately two days (four dives), typically scheduled over a weekend.
  • Timing: Daily start times at 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Morning and early‑afternoon dives to maximise daylight; custom dates available upon request.
  • Group size: Limited to four divers per instructor for safety and individual coaching.
  • Location: Wrecks around Dibba Al‑Fujairah and Musandam, chosen based on conditions and depth limits.
  • Wreck diving involves hazards like entanglement, silt and overhead environments; follow your instructor’s guidance closely.
  • Penetration dives stay within the natural light zone; full penetration requires technical training.
  • Respect maritime heritage: never remove artefacts or disturb marine life.
  • Use a dive light even during day dives to peer into openings and communicate with your buddy.
  • Consider taking the Deep Diver and Nitrox specialties to extend bottom time and explore deeper wrecks safely.
