What you need to know

  • Two open water dives focusing on weight distribution, trim, and propulsion.
  • Personalized coaching from a Nemo instructor.
  • Transportation to Dibba Al‑Fujairah or Musandam.
  • Personal dive kit (mask, fins, wetsuit, computer and SMB). Bring your own equipment for the best fit.
  • Meals beyond snacks.
  • Dive insurance and optional Nitrox upgrades.
  • Additional specialties or dives beyond the two required for certification.

In this Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty, you will learn how to:

  • fine-tune your weighting for better balance
  • improve trim in horizontal, vertical, and hovering positions
  • practise controlled hovering without sculling
  • use efficient propulsion techniques with less effort
  • reduce drag and improve streamlining underwater
  • protect coral and marine life through better body awareness
  • improve breathing efficiency and overall comfort underwater

This buoyancy control course is built to help divers make small corrections that lead to major improvements in confidence and control.

After meeting the course requirements, divers receive a buoyancy control certification through the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty. This scuba buoyancy certification confirms that you have completed formal training in weighting, trim, hovering, and efficient underwater movement.

For divers continuing their education, this buoyancy diving specialty is also a strong addition to a broader specialty pathway and supports long-term improvement across all dive environments.

  • Your standard dive gear (mask, fins, wetsuit, BCD, regulator) and dive computer.
  • Surface marker buoy (SMB) and whistle.
  • Swimwear, towel and reef‑safe sunscreen.
  • Refillable water bottle and light snacks if desired.
  • A curious mindset ready to make small adjustments for big gains.
  1. Theory review: Complete self‑study on buoyancy concepts and weighting principles.
  2. Dive 1: Conduct weight checks, adjust trim and practise hovering motionless at different depths.
  3. Dive 2: Practise advanced propulsion techniques and manoeuvre through hoops or obstacles to test control.
  4. Debrief: Receive personalised feedback from your instructor and tips for continued improvement.
  5. Certification: Submit your logbook and receive your PPB specialty card.
  • The course typically takes 2–3 days. Each session lasts for 2-3 hours
  • Daily start times at 9 AM, 12 PM or 3 PM.
  • Courses run year‑round; scheduling is flexible to suit your availability.
  • Location: Pool and open water session in Dubai.
  • You must dive within your existing certification depth (usually 18 m for Open Water, 30 m for Advanced). The course does not extend depth limits.
  • Adjusting your weighting may feel unfamiliar at first; expect to make several small changes during dive 1.
  • This course emphasises environmental awareness. Do not touch corals or animals; good buoyancy protects the reef.
  • Consider combining PPB with specialties like Underwater Photography or Night Diver to build a skill package.
  • Bring your own weight system if you have one; Nemo will help adjust it for optimal trim.
