Palm Without Plastic Clean-up Dive

Plastic is all around us. You might be surprised how much plastic you use each day. Did you know that the most significant amount of plastic waste comes from packaging materials? Many food and beverages come in different forms of plastic packaging such as tetra packs, bowls, bags, boxes, and bottles. Even household items like cleaning products come in plastic containers. You might not be aware but furniture, electronics, clothing fibers, and medical supplies also have plastic components.

Plastic threat

The sheer amount of plastics that people use daily has led to extreme plastic pollution. Aside from being an environmental issue, it has also become a health concern. According to medical studies, certain chemicals found in plastic packaging can leak out and contaminate our food and drinks. This often occurs when certain plastics are exposed to heat. This harmful material may also leach into the water supply and pose a threat to humans and animals.

What we can do to help

Company initiatives

As a way to combat the threat of plastic to our environment, many companies have adjusted their packaging. Over the past decades, a lot of environment-friendly companies have turned to natural materials such as paper and glass.

Recycle and reuse

Individuals have the power to help fight this kind of pollution. Recycling and reusing plastic products is a perfect way to help fight the problem. A great example is replacing single-use plastics such as straws, cutlery, and disposable food containers with reusable ones.

Ocean Clean-up

We all know that plastic pollution is destroying our planet but hope is not lost. Nemo Diving Center believes that together we can help restore Mother Earth. If you love the ocean as much as we do, then lend us a hand in keeping it clean.

Advantages of Ocean Clean-up

1. Protect marine life

Plastics do not only pile up in landfills but also in oceans across the globe. It is estimated that at least 8 million tons of plastic pollute our oceans. Plastic comprise a whopping 80% of all marine debris. Marine animals such as fish, turtles, dolphins, seals, whales, and others ingest these floating plastic materials. When this happens, it can cause illness or death. Even seabirds are susceptible to plastic ingestion. Entanglement is also a huge threat to marine life. Removing litter from the beach or ocean can help save the lives of many marine animals.

2. Preserve the beauty of our surroundings

Plastic garbage is not only hazardous but also an eyesore. A beach is a wonderful place for families and friends. People hang out at the beach to enjoy the sun, sand, and the water. Litter can prevent folks from enjoying a stroll on the beach or swimming in the water. By helping clean up the beach and the ocean, you ensure that visitors can have a fun and safe time.

3. Promote a safer environment

Aside from plastic, debris such as broken glass or a piece of metal with sharp edges can be dangerous. Imagine a barefoot beach-goer stepping on one. Ouch! An injury like that can cut a person’s leisure time and lead him to the emergency room. Beach and ocean clean-ups can prevent accidents like this from happening.
