Inchcape 1 Dive Site in Fujairah

About Dive Site

Once known as Gray Swift 2, Inchcape 1 served as a crew and supply transporter before being decommissioned in 2001. The vessel was purposefully sunk to create an artificial reef and now rests at a depth of 30 m, making it the deepest of the Inchcape wrecks. Over time, soft corals and marine life have transformed this 1970s‑built ship into a thriving underwater ecosystem.

The bow of Inchcape 1 is wrapped in candy‑coloured pink and purple Dendronephthya soft corals, providing an impressive entry point. Within the wheelhouse and corridors, schools of cardinalfish hide from hunting barracuda and emperor fish. The depth and size of this wreck offer a more challenging dive than Inchcape 2 or 10, rewarding advanced divers with a rich, immersive experience.

Expect soldierfish, boxfish, pennant fish, red big eyes and pufferfish inside the wreck. Yellow snappers school near the wreckage, pursued by jacks and trevally. Moray eels lurk in the ship’s tyres, while rays rest in the sand beneath the hull. At the stern, colourful nudibranchs and seahorses delight photographers.

  • Advanced and deep‑certified divers: The 30 m depth requires proper training and allows more experienced divers to explore extensively.
  • Wreck and macro enthusiasts: The combination of large schools of fish and tiny creatures appeals to a broad range of photographers.
  • Explorers seeking challenge: If you’re comfortable in overhead environments and deeper water, Inchcape 1 offers an exciting dive.
  • A deep‑dive certification or equivalent experience is required.
  • Use nitrox if certified to extend bottom time at 30 m.
  • Carry a torch and a secondary light source; the interior can be dark.
  • Maintain neutral buoyancy to avoid silting and protect the coral growth.
  • Bring a reel and guideline for penetration; exit points may be obscured by schooling fish.
